Matthew Stanley Meselson is an American geneticist and molecular biologist whose research was important in inventing a method for separating macromolecules according to their density and in showing how DNA replicates, recombines and is corrected in cells and how cells recognize and destroy foreign DNA. Among his most famous experiments was that which showed that DNA is replicated semi-conservatively; this is often referred to as "the most beautiful experiment in molecular biology." He has also had an interest in chemical and biological weapons disarmament. Meselson is Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard.
