QR Challenge: Geometry Coordinate System

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

C. TIPS / OTHER IDEAS

4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.

Question

Answer

1. Find the distance and midpoint between the points (1,2) and (4, 6).5, (2.5,5)
2. Find the equation of the line that has points at (4,11) and (2,5).y=3x-1
3. Write the equation of the line that has a slope of 2/3 and goes through (-2,4).y=2/3x + 16/3
4. Graph the line 2y-3x=7. Take a picture and text it to me.y=3/2x + 7/2 and picture
5. Find a picture on pg. 55. Solve for the midpoint from the school to the store. Solve for the slope from the library to the store.(2,7.5) and the slope is -1
6. Find a line that is parallel to the point y=3x + 2 and goes through (2,-3).y=3x-9
7. Find a line that is perpendicular to y=1/4x + 3 and goes through (0,1).y=-4x + 5
8. Here is the toughest problem: find the closest distance between y=2x + 1 and (3,2).2.24
9. Find the distance from P(6, 4) to the line y = 1.3 units
10. Estimate the solution for the following equations: y=-1/2x - 3 and y = 3/2x + 1 (-2,-2)
11. Graph the following inequality: 3y + 6x > 9 (send me a picture of the picture).y > -2x + 3 and picture
