QR Challenge: triangle similarity for coach soria

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

Question

Answer

1. 1. triangle ABC and triangle XYZ are similar. draw these two similar triangles if there measures are:answers may vary
2. 1A. measure the side lengths of each triangle to the nearest tenth of a centimeter. look on the board for the table that you will have to complete?answers may vary
3. 1B. what does the your answer in 1A and the ratios in the table in 1B lead us to believe about the two triangles, explain your conclusion?triangles are similar, corresponding angles are congruent and corresponding sides are proportional
4. 1C. write a conjecture that has the following hypothesis, "IF two angles of one triangle are congruent to two angles of another triangle, THEN.....?the triangle is similar
5. 2. use a graph paper to plot the following ordered pair and draw and label triangle ABC, A(0,0), B(4,0), C(4,3). plot the following ordered pair and draw and label triangle BDE, B(4,0), D(12,0), E(12.6)?students will plot and label on a separate graph paper.
6. 2A. the triangles formed by the given ordered pairs have corresponding sides that are proportional. find the lengths of each side using the units on the coordinates grid, and complete the table that is on the board labeled 2A?students will fill find the length of each side and find the ratio of each side of the triangle.
7. 2B. write an equation of the line that passes through the point A and C, also find the equation of the line that passes through point B and E?equation of A and C y=(3/4)x, and equation of B and E y=(3/4)x-3
8. 2C. what is the slope for each of the lines in question 2B?(3/4)
9. 2D. what does this verify about each of the lines?that AC and BE are parallel because they have the same slope
10. 2E. how can this information be used to verify that AC is parallel to BE and is being cut by a transversal AD: therefore,
