4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.
3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!
4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.
Question | Answer |
1. Why is it important for artery walls to be both strong and flexible? | Artery walls need to be strong to withstand the pressure of blood; they must also be flexible in order to respond to changing blood volume. | 2. Contrast the functions of arteries, capillaries, and veins. | Arteries carry blood away from the heart. Capillaries carry blood between arteries and veins and are the site of the exchange of materials with cells. Veins return blood to the heart. | 3. What causes blood pressure? | The force with which the ventricles contract to push blood into arteries. | 4. Explain the factors that enable blood in your leg veins to return to the heart in spite of the downward pull of gravity. | Skeletal muscles around the veins squeeze blood upward; valves prevent backward flow. | 5. Arteries adjust the amount of blood flowing to different parts of the body, depending on where blood is needed. Use this fact to explain why it may not be a good idea to exercise vigorously shortly after you eat. | After eating, blood is routed to the digestive system. If someone exercises right after eating, the body might not be able to supply enough blood to both the digestive system and the skeletal muscle. |
