1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.
2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to
4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.
1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.
2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.
3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!
4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.
Question | Answer |
1. 1. This organelle controls the cell, similar to a computer used to organize and control information. The next organelle must have sunlight to make energy | nucleus | 2. 2. This cell organelle is not found in all cells but creates energy using sunlight. The next organelle creates energy for the cell and is like a power outlet | chloroplast | 3. 3. This organelle creates energy for cells and is sometimes called the “powerhouse.” The next organelle provides support and structure for the cell and acts as a barrier between the cell and other organic materials | mitochondria | 4. 4. This semi-permeable barrier provides support and protection for cells. The next organelle is an \"outer wall\" found in some cells | cell membrane | 5. 5. This rigid cell organelle is the outer layer to many cells. The next organelle creates proteins (run the cell by completing tasks) just like the administration & secretaries run the school | cell wall | 6. 6. This organelle helps create proteins for the cell. The next organelle holds everything in the cell together in a big space | ribosomes | 7. 7. This jelly-like organelle provides support and holds other organelles together. The next organelle helps to transport materials in the cell like the transfer of information through the classroom phone | cytoplasm | 8. 8. This organelle, sometimes studded in ribosomes, helps transport materials in the cell. The next organelle is found only in some cells and is a big storage device like a large storage container | Endoplasmic Reticulum | 9. 9. This organelle is larger in most plants and provides storage space for water, sugar, and waste. The next organelle helps transport materials out of the cell like the recycle bin | Vacuole | 10. 10. This organelle helps package and transport materials out of the cell. The next organelle helps control the cell | Golgi Apparatus |
