QR Challenge: Super Leader's Guide to Our Classroom

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

Question

Answer

1. Genius Hour: Modeled after the Google 20% policy - we get to pick our passion and run with it! We will use an hour each week to research a topic about which we are passionate...perhaps venomous frogs? The Great Wall of China? The International Space Center? Coding? Unleash your genius and follow your passion! I can't wait to see where it takes you!Genius Hour
2. H.E.R.O. Book: Have Everything Ready & Organized Book - let's face it, staying organized is tricky to learn. The H.E.R.O. Book is my tool to stay organized so I can do my best work each day.2 H.E.R.O. Book2
3. Our Work Is Incredible!: This is the place we put our work that we are really proud of. I get to pick my work that goes up here and I need to make sure it is changes at least once a month.3Our Work Is Incredible3

5. Super Leader of the Week: Each student in our class is a leader. We celebrate the unique 'awesomeness' of each leader for a week during the school year. The schedule for the Super Leader of the Week is in the "Important Information" section of my H.E.R.O. Book. The Sunday before my week I need to email my responses to the Leader of the Week questions to Mr. Fischer by noon. During my week my photos and responses to the questions are featured. I get to bring something to share with the class (a collection, something I made, etc.) and if I want I can bring a nut-free snack to share with the class on the Friday afternoon of my week.5Super Leader of the Week5
6. Smartboard: The Smartboard gets a lot of use in our classroom! We watch videos about things we are learning, "visit" museums, research, and get to touch and interact with our lessons. For example, if we are learning about equivalent fractions we can model and manipulate fractions to help us understand.6Smartboard6
7. Leader In Me: We are working on Leadership for our first SES (Social and Environmental Studies) mini-unit. We are using the "7 Habits of Happy Kids" model. The Seven Habits will help me be the best student and class member I can be every day!7Leader In Me7
