QR Challenge: Kindergarten Kick-Off

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

C. TIPS / OTHER IDEAS

4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.

Questions / Answers (teacher reference)

Question

Answer

1. Find your locker and practice opening and closing it quietly! Find the hooks for hanging up your coat and book bag. If you have separate gym shoes, place them on your top shelf.
2. Find the lunch menu by the door. Have a grown-up read the menu for the first day of school. Make a decision about what you want to eat that day. Find your lunch clip (Our class list is next to the lunch menu. Find your number)and clip it to the correct ribbon (hot lunch, yogurt, peanut butter and jelly, or packed lunch from home)
3. Find the drinking fountain in our room, and get a drink. Practice using the blue step stool.
4. Find three trash cans (Hint: one is in the bathroom!)and one blue recycle bin.
5. Find where 3 different boxes of tissues are located in our classroom.
6. Find your mailbox. You are assigned a number for the whole year. Your name is on a list stapled to the wall above the mailboxes; find your number next to your name. Look in your mailbox for a surprise!
7. Find the black plastic bin next to the mailboxes. This is where you will turn in your folder each day.
8. Find the black wire tray on top of the green bookcase (against the wall by my office door). This is where you will turn in your work each day.
9. Find the bathroom in our room. Have a grown-up help you read the procedures. Practice getting toilet paper, flushing the toilet, and washing your hands.
10. Find your name/seat at the round tables. Get a blank piece of paper from the black plastic tray on top of the green bookcase (this tray is next to our black wire turn-in tray), ask an adult to carefully remove your nametag, place the white paper over the top of your nametag, and use a pencil (from the cup in your table tub) to trace it. Place the paper with your name in the black wire basket on top of the green bookcase. Remember, this is where all work will be turned in each day.
11. Go to a computer and practice typing your name on the keyboard. Please do NOT turn on the computers!
12. Find the rainbow-shaped table in the back corner of the room. This is our small group reading table.
13. Find the hand sanitizer near the door. Practice taking just ONE squirt.
14. Time to leave the classroom! Take a walk through the school to find the music rooms, the art rooms, the gyms, the library, and the cafeteria. (If your child does NOT ride the bus, skip this next part and go back to our room) If you are going to be riding the bus, go out door 14 (across from the office) and find your bus. Be sure to tell your bus driver your name. You may also want to tell him/her THANK YOU!!! Now return to our room. You may choose a book to enjoy with your grown-up. Be sure to put it back in the correct box when you are done!
