QR Challenge: 2365-304 b

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

C. TIPS / OTHER IDEAS

4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.

Question

Answer

1. 1. Is a fuse an on-or-off load isolation device? Off load
2. 2. State the equation to obtain ZS? and explain the terms ZS = ZE + (R1 + R2)
3. 3. What do the letters T, N, C, S stand for and mean with relevance to a type of supply system? Terre, Neutral, Combined, Separate
4. 4. Explain the diversity equation for a domestic cooker circuit Take the 1st 10 amperes, then add to it 30 % of the remainder, finally add 5A if there is a socket outlet fitted.
5. 5. What is basic protection? Basic protection is the use of barriers, enclosure and insulation.
6. 6. State using the correct terms, the order of supply for a typical domestic installation? Over current protection- supply cut out; Metering- KWH meter; Isolation+ distribution- control.
7. 7. What do the letters ADS stand for and explain the phrase Automatic Disconnection of Supply means in the event of a fault the supply will be disconnected from the mains electricity. It consists of basic and fault protection.
8. 8. State ohms law as well as the power triangle, defining the termsV=IR P=VI
9. 9. Why is it important that an isolator can be locked off? To ensure that the supply is not re-instated and hence does not injure any persons working on the system.
10. 10. What is the purpose in providing discrimination of protective devices? By design the correct protective device operates at the right time, minimizing the number of circuits that are affected by the fault.
11. 11. What does PME stand for and where would you find it? Protective Multiple Earthing, TNC-S.
12. 12. How would you describe 1) a fuse, 2) a MCB; including how they operate Self destructing either rewireable/cartridge/HRC. Resetable, miniature circuit breaker (magnetic/thermal)
