1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.
2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to
4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.
1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.
2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.
3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!
4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.

(Homologous or Analogous) (View Picture) | Homologous Structure | 3. 3.According to the diagram, X is considered to be a common ancestor or unrelated organism? Also, which one is the most closely related? | Common ancestor & Snakes and Lizards | 4. 4.Having the same function for flying but are different in structure is an example of an analogous structure or a homologous structure?(View picture) | analogous structure | 5. 5. The frog leg and the bat wing are homologous. This means: may share a common ancestor or eat the same foods? | May share a common ancestor | 6. 6.What evidence of evolution explains why species in North America are closely related to species in Africa? (Convergent evolution or Biogeography) | Biogeography | 7. 7.The whale bones labeled "pelvis" and "femur" appear to be useless. This is called vestigial structures. This gives support to (concept of regeneration or modern theory of evolution) | modern theory of evolution | 8. 8.Which is the most probable, correct assumption to be made concerning species A, B, C, and D? (D is the ancestor of A, B, and C or A is the ancestor of C and D) | A is the ancestor of C and D | 9. 9.The similarities in embryonic development shown in the diagram suggest that these organisms: (are all members of the same species or may have evolved from a common ancestor) | may have evolved from a common ancestor | 10. 10.Which of the following is a structural difference between the modern horse and its ancestors? (the size of the molars has increased or length of the forefoot has decreased) | the size of the molars has increased | 11. 11.Which of the given diagrams best shows the theory of gradualism? (A, B or C) | Diagram A | 12. 12.The Endosymbiotic Theory states that free-living prokaryotes formed a symbiotic relationship with early eukaryotic cells. This best explains (development and complexity of the nucleus or development and complexity of the eukaryotic cell) (View picture) | the development and complexity of the eukaryotic cell |
