Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

• Download a QR reader (e.g. I-Nigma | NeoReader | Kaywa) onto their mobile devices
• Bring these devices into the lesson.

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

3. Take a walk to the new building that houses the physics, math, psychology, geology, biology and chemistry disciplines. a. On what floor of GMS could you possibly find growing plants and vegetables? b. Check out Keefe Gallery, how many circular pieces of furniture do you see? Find the place where students can borrow books for free, it is not the library. It is called the “Little Free Library”. Find your next clue there.	Fourth floor, 5
4. Remember you can use this place to borrow and lend books. Please head over to the largest place of worship on campus. a. What is the name of the shrine? b. what is the famous Christian symbol found in the center of the hallway? After you answered these questions head out the door nearest the shrine. 5. Phils is well known for its good grilled food. a. what is the daily special for today? How much does the chicken strip basket cost? Now head outside near the dock. c. How many wooden picnic table can you see? d. Find the plaque about the Gehl Scenic overlook. d. What is the name of Paul and Carol's daughter? Once you have answered these questions, find out where your next clue is by reading the QR code found near one of the wooden picnic tables.	Jane
6. For your next QR code, find the place where you get your mail. While you are there, ask these questions of the mail person. a. What is the cost of a regular stamp? b. What is the strangest thing you have ever shipped or received in the mail center? c. What is the difference between priority mail shipping and regular shipping? Once you have asked these questions and gotten the answer, ask for the next QR code.	48 cents
7. Your next adventure will take place across campus, head on over the the Welcome center of St. Norbert College. Once here, go to the center counter and ask these questions. a. How many students are in the new fall freshman class? b. What is the biggest freshman class ever? c. How many students attend St. Norbert College? d. 8. Head over the library. Here you will need to find a few things. If you need help finding something, remember you can ask for help. a. For an extra point, send me an email from the table computer in the basement. This is extra so if you can't do it, that is fine. Now, go to the front help desk and ask the librarian these questions. c. What is your favorite book? d. How can I check out movies from the library? 9. Your next place gets you into a brand new building. You must use your card swipe to get in, look around and answer these questions. a. What are three different types of exercise that you could do at this center? b. What are the summer hours? After this, please go to a new building and look for card services. Once you are here, ask this question. c. What is the difference between meal dollars and custom cash? d. How do students get their custom cash back before leaving the college?
