Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

Question

Answer

1. Welcome agents to your first assignment. Let's get started! The first step is to give every agent a 'Spy Codes for Kids' paper and a code to crack found in file #1 on the table. Give each team a pencil.  All of these codes are clues that will lead you to your next destination.
2. Now you got a key, where could the lock be? No need to fuss or fiddle. The answer is in this riddle. I am a useful appliance that dries your shirt. After it has been cleaned and covered in dirt.
3. Awesome job agents! You have successfully unlocked another clue. Give each team another code to crack. Hand out a paper to every secret agent. Make sure you have the 'Spy Codes for Kids' paper to hand. Wait in the den for further instructions with the ipad.
4. Welcome to the crime scene agents. Agent Cinnamon has received information that Mr Squeak, the rat,  Midnight Tail, the cat and Patches, the dog were last seen at the SPCA when the pet supplies were stolen. Each team will be given 1 piece of evidence a suspect may have left at the scene. Each team must look at the 3 suspects' rap sheets (information about them) and see if they can match the evidence to 1, 2, or all of them. The suspect with the most matches is likely the criminal. Once you all decide who it is, you can look at file #2
5. Well done agents! It turns out Patches stole all the items because he doesn't like to share. But where are all the stolen pet supplies? Patches left you 1 last riddle that may help you find the goods. There's no need to fret, you use this when you transport your pet to the vet.
6. You are only a whisker away now. In order to get inside, you must divide into 4 teams to work out the combination. Give each of the 4 teams a paper. Once you have got the answer, use the 'Spy Codes for Kids' paper to work out the combination. Paper 1 is the first letter, paper 2 is the second letter,  etc.
7. Patches is one shady character. He has played a trick on you. He says he will tell you where the stolen items are if one of you can disable this bomb. Whoever is the last one standing, can open the final file, file 3.
8. Congratulations Agents! Excellent work. You have all saved the SPCA! Poor Patches! He will have to clean all the animal cages at the SPCA for the rest of his life. Yuck! Agent Cinnamon looks forward to working with you all on the next assignment.
