Transition Metal
They have high Melting Points.
They are not very reactive.
They are useful as catalysts.
They form coloured compounds.
They are strong and hard.
They have high densities.
They react with water releasing a hydrogen gas.
They can form different ions.
Their ions are often 2+ but may be variable.
Alkali Metal
They have low melting points.
They are very reactive.
Their compounds are white.
They react with non-metals to form ionic compounds.
They are soft and can be cut with a knife.
They have alow density and some float on water.
They react with water forming an alkaline solution.
They are good thermal and electrical conductors.
They can form 1+ ions.
