Medieval anti-semitism
-Religious based
-Belief that Christ was killed by Jews
-Lived seperately in ghettos
-Accused of black magic and spreading diseases drinking the blood of children
-Jews migrated to Poland in 1500s to escape persecution
-Forced into unpopular work such as tax collecting, money lending and rent collection
-Denied entry into most jobs and were not allowed to own land
-Muslim countries treated Jews with respect in contrast to Christian countries
Modern anti-semitism
-Social Darwinism meant that racial differences were stressesd - Jewish prejudice was based on their supposed racial inferiority
-Even converted Jews were considered not Christian as once Jewish, always so.
-Blamed for Germany losing World War One
-Enflamed by propaganda like Protocols of the Elders of Zion
-Seen as a race rather than a religion
-Blamed for the Communist revolution in Russia in 1917
-Accused of undermining society and promoting revolution
-Forced in Russian empire to live in the Pale
-Ignorance of Jewish religion and way of life
-Scapegoats for societies' ills
-Segregated and marganilised to varying degrees
-Seen by some as sub human
