Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

1. Hello Year 4, Batman here. I need your help, I have to work out how many villains I have caught to send to head office. First I need to test your addition skills. Red group your question is 345 + 543. Orange group yours is 3456 + 3652. Green your question is 456.4 + 3425.9. Write your question on a whiteboard and work it out. Your teacher will take it from there.
2. 1. Batman is called to Panem where he finds 23 villains in one part of the city and 43 in another part of the city. How many villains does he catch in Panem?
3. 2. Unfortunately 13 of these villains end up escaping before they are put into prison in Gothem City. How many are left?
4. 3. Batman receives a call and has to fly to Arkham. He catches 65 villians however 27 were found innocent. How many villains did he catch in Arkham?
5. 4. There is a fire in Empire city and Batman is asked to get to the bottom of who did it. He arrests 54 villains in connection with this and releases 13 due to them being innocent. How many are guilty?
6. 5. There is a robbery in Delta city. Batman investigates and finds out that there are 76 villains involved however Batman only manages to catch 28. How many more does he need to catch?
7. 6. Batman finds out that 63 villains are planning an attack on Gothem City. He manages to find 29 of them. How many does he have left to find?
8. 7. Central Park has an attack where 34 villains are captured on one day and 124 are captured on day two. How many are caught altogether?
9. 8. 65 of these villains are found innocent. How many are guilty for this attack?
