| 1. John 1 v1-9. Before the world began, there was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made through him. Nothing was made without him. In him there was life. That life was light for the people of the world. The Light shines in the darkness. And the darkness has not overpowered the Light. There was a man named John who was sent by God. He came to tell people about the Light. Through him all people could hear about the light and believe. John was not the Light, but he came to tell people about the Light. The true Light was coming into the world. The true Light gives light to all. | 2. John 3 v19-21. “I am the Light from God that has come into the world. But men did not want light. They wanted darkness because they were doing evil things. Everyone who does evil, hates the light. He will not come to the light because it will show all the evil things he has done. But he who follows the true way comes to the Light. Then the light will show that the things he has done were done through God.” | 3. John 8 v12. “I am the light of the world. The person who follows me will never live in darkness. He will have the light that gives life.” | 4. Luke 11 v 33. No-one takes a light and puts it under a bowl or hides it. Instead, he puts the light on a lamp stand so that people who come in can see. Your eye is a light for the body. If your eyes are good, then your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are evil, then your whole body will be full of darkness. So be careful! Don’t let the light in you become darkness. It your whole body is full of light, and none of it is dark, then you will shine bright, as when a lamp shines on you. | 5. Proverbs 4 v18&19. The way of the good person is like the light of dawn. It grows brighter and brighter until it is full daylight. But the wicked are like those who stumble in the dark. They can’t even see what has hurt them. | 6. Psalm 119 v 105. Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. | 7. Matthew 5 v14-16. You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden. And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put the light on a lampstand. Then the light shines for all people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven. |
