1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.
2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to
4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.
1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.
2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.
3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!
4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.

| 1. Question1: A boat moves through the water with two forces acting on it. One is a 2.10 x 103 N forward push by the motor, and the other is a 1.80 x 103 N resistive force due to the water. a. What is the acceleration of the 1200 kg boat? b. If it starts from rest, how far will it move in 12 seconds? c. What will its speed be at the end of this time interval? | answer1a. 0.25 m/s/s b. 18 m c. 3 m/s | 2. Question2: A box of books weighing 319 N is shoved across the floor by a force of 485 N exerted downward at an angle of 35° below the horizontal. If µk between the box and the floor is 0.57, how long does it take to move the box 4.0 meters starting from rest? | answer2 1.7 m/s/s | 3. Problem 3: Becky, whose mass is 35.0 kg, climbs the ladder on the slide in her back yard, and slides to the ground at an angle of 30° to the horizontal. If the coefficient of sliding friction is 0.15, what is Becky’s acceleration down the slide? Ignore the initial effects of starting friction. | answer3 -3.6 m/s/s | 4. Problem 4: A hockey puck is hit on a frozen lake and starts moving with a speed of 12.0 m/s. Exactly 5 seconds later the speed is 6.0 m/s. What is the puck’s average acceleration? What is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the puck and the ice? | answer4 -1.2m/s/s b. 0.12 | 5. Problem 5: Noah is loading the ark. The last animal on board is a stubborn 1500-kg elephant who refuses to budge. Noah and his family pull the elephant at a constant speed up the 10° incline with a force of 10,000 N. What is the coefficient of sliding friction between the elephant and the loading platform? | answer5 0.51 |
