QR Challenge: 9 Maths Week 7 review

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

C. TIPS / OTHER IDEAS

4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.

Questions / Answers (teacher reference)

Question

Answer

1. 1. Given the function y=15x-7 calculate the value of x if y=83 6
2. 2. Each boy who enters the tuckshop spends on average $8, if the tuckshop has expense of $450 a day, write an equation to represent the profit. (Hint let x = the number of boys entering the tuckshop) profit = 8x – 450
3. 3. When the Ross Oval grandstand was extended 4 tradesmen were employed for 13 days, working 8 hours a day. If the tradesmen were paid $65 an hour, how much did the tradesmen cost in total? $33 800
4. 4. Determine the x and y intercepts on the following equation: 5y – 3x = 15 (-5,0), (0, 3)
5. 5. Decide if (-2, 7) lies on the line y = 4x + 15 (Show full working) Yes
6. 6. Sketch the following graphs on the one set of axes: y = -2; x = 3; y = 2x. Teacher check
7. 7. Find the gradient of the line that joins P(-2, 7) and Q(3, -3). m = -2
8. 8. A line has a gradient of 4 and crosses the y axes at 1. Write the equation of the line in the form y = mx + c. y = 4x + 1
9. 9. Determine the equation of a line in the form y = mx + c that passes through the points A(-2, -1) and B(2, 7). y = 2x + 3
10. 10. Given the gradient of a line is 1/2 , calculate the value of x if the 2 points on the line are A(x, 2) and B(3, 7). x = -2
11. 11. Simplify the following expression: 〖(2x^3)〗^5/√(9x^4 y^0 )×(3y^(-1))/(4x^3 ) (8x^10)/y
12. 12. Draw a Venn Diagram to represent the following situation: 50 people were surveyed in the street and they were asked if they subscribe to Kayo, Stan or both. 33 subscribed to Kayo, 28 subscribed to Stan and 8 subscribed to neither. Both = 19, Kayo only = 14, Stan only = 9, Neither = 8
13. 13. Hose A can fill a bucket in 2 minutes. Hose B can fill a bucket in 3 minutes. How long would it take to fill the bucket if both hoses are used at the same time? 1.2 minutes or 1minute and 12 seconds.
