1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.
2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.
3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

| 1. All of our music classrooms are in these 2 hallways, known as the music wing in Viking Village. This area opened up just this year! In 6th grade we offer Band, Orchestra, Choir and General Music. Band, Orchestra and Choir are year long classes during an encore bell. General Music is a semester class divided into one quarter in the MIE Yamaha Keyboard Lab and one quarter in American Music. It is not too late to sign up for Band, Orchestra or Choir, but you need to get signed up soon if you are interested. Your music teacher at your school can help you get signed up for Band, Orchestra and Choir. Most students who are not in Band, Orchestra or Choir will most likely be in a General Music class at some point in the school year. | Music Wing | 2. The cafeteria is where we eat lunch and socialize during the day. We have many choice for lunch on a daily basis. Students get 30 minutes for lunch each day. (Students may look in and then walk towards the gym) | Cafeteria | 3. You will probably get the chance to take Physical Education next year. When you are a seventh and an eighth grader you will be able to tryout for the middle school athletic teams. | Gym | 4. If you feel sick, get hurt, or need to take medicine, you will go see the nurse. Just make sure you get a pass from your teacher or the nurse will not be able to see you. If you are too sick to stay at school, the nurse will send you home. The Main office is right next door and that is where you will get picked up to go home. | Nurses Office | 5. Students can stop in before and after School. Otherwise you need to carry your Planner signed by your Teacher. Your Planner is your Hall Pass. Students come to the Student Center to buy a replacement Planner. Students need exact change, the Secretaries do not make change. Students come to the Student to sign up to see their Counselor and Principal. There is a notebook on the Counter to sign up to see your Counselor or Principal. Bus Passes-Students must have a note signed by their Parent in order to get a Bus Pass. A Bus Pass allows you to ride a different Bus than the one that takes you home every day. (Like if you’re going to your cousin’s house instead of yours after school, and you need to ride a different bus-you must have a Bus Pass). Students need to bring a signed note from their Parent to the Office or to the Student Center first thing in the morning. The Secretaries will not call your Parent to ask if it is ok. Instead, you must already have a signed Parent Note. Lost and Found-if you lose your cell phone, come to the Student Center to report it and fill out a form. If you lose anything else, check the Lost and Found Box that will be in the Cafeteria. | Student Center | 6. Your core classes will take place in the 600 wing or 2600 wing. These classes include Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Our students and teachers are split into 4 teams in the sixth grade. That means that there are 2 teams on each floor. You will have a locker near your team. | Think Tank | 7. Can you feel it? You are now in the creativity center of PCMS. 6th graders who have Art in their schedules, will likely be in Mr. Bargo’s Studio Art class, in room 2552. This Art class meets every day for 1 semester. 7th and 8th graders who wish to continue in Art, or take Art for the first time will have either Studio Art with Mr. Reed in Room 2562 Or Digital Art with Mrs. Becker in Rm. 2557. These Art classes meet every day for 1 semester. The only difference between Studio Art and Digital Art is that you use computers to create Art in Digital Art and you use traditional Art supplies in Studio Art. There is an Honors Art program for 8th graders who qualify. Students take this Art class, every day for 2 semesters. Students take Studio Art for one semester and Digital Art for the other semester. Honors Art students receive 1 High School credit. As we continue our tour, see if you can tell which Art displays are from the Studio Art classes and which are from the Digital Art classes. | Art Classrooms | 8. This is the library, which we call Odin’s Den. You will come here to check out library books every two weeks with your Language Arts class. We have some of your favorite books from elementary school, but we have many books that will be new to you and become your new favorites. You will also come to the Den to use computers and work on projects. | DEN |
