1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.
2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to
4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.
1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.
2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.
3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!
4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.
Question | Answer |
1. What is the measure of a given angle in radians if its arc length is 16π and its radius is 12? What is this angle value in degrees? | 4π/3 or 240° | 2. Find each of these using the unit circle: a) Cos(π), b) Sin(-π/2), c) Tan (4π) | -1, -1, 0 | 3. Determine the quadrant of 5π/6, then find all 6 trig function values using the unit circle. | QII, Sinϴ = (1/2), Cosϴ = (-√3/2), Tanϴ = (-√3/3), Cscϴ = 2, Secϴ = (-2√3/3), Cotϴ = -√3 | 4. Use the even/odd properties of the trigonometric functions to determine the values of a) tan(-π/4) and b) sec(-5π/3). | Odd, -1; Even, -2 | 5. Find the sign of the expression (Cos(t)Cot(t))/Sin(t) if the terminal point (angle) is in QII. | negative | 6. Write Tan(t) in terms of Sin(t) where t is in QIV. | -[Sin(t)]^2/√(1-[Sin(t)]^2) | 7. The terminal point, (3/5, -4/5) is given to be on the unit circle. Find sine, cosine, and tangent of the angle ϴ formed by the point. | Sinϴ = -4/5, Cosϴ = 3/5, Tanϴ = -4/3 |
