QR Challenge: Malmesbury Scout Field Scavenger Trail

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.


B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

1. 1.Welcome to Malmesbury Scout field trail hunt. Please exit the car park and head east towards the scout field. Be careful crossing the road, head towards the steps at the start of the footpath. Follow the path down towards the first of the stilesWaitrose Carpark

5. 5.Welcome to the second route into the scout field. At the end of this path please be careful on the step down and the main road. At the road turn right and follow the pavement towards town. You are looking for a footpath entrance on the opposite side of the road. You will need to cross the road. Please be care when crossing the road.Footpath Gate
6. 6.Head down the footpath and over the Stile. Directly after the stiles turn left, along the footpath and towards the big green sign.B4042 Footpath Entrance
7. 7.Cross over the Stile and down the hill. You will see an entrance on the right. This again is a foot path through private land, so please ensure you keep to the footpath and dogs stay on a lead.Green Sign
8. 8.Pass through the gap in hedge and head south. Follow the hedge line on your right hand side, this is called handrailing the hedge. Follow this until the gate at the end of the field.Gap in Hedge.
9. 9.Turn around and follow the river back toward Sir Bernard Lovell Road. You are following the footpath next to the river. In front of you is a footpath exit back onto the B4042. Cross over the Stile and head up the steps.Gate at end of Field
10. 10.Immediately cross over the road. – please be careful crossing the road. Follow the pavement towards town. Turn right into Cowbridge Crescent and then into Kembles Close. At the back corner of Kembles Close is the alleyway entrance to the field. Head towards the Stile. Entrance to Sir Bernard Lovell.
11. 11.This is the Kembles Close entrance to the field. When using this entrance please be conscious of the residence when parking. Head North towards Willow entrance to the Scout Field. There should be a mowed path through the field for you to follow. Kembles Close Entrance
