QR Challenge: Technology in the Classroom

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

Answer

1. What is digital literacy?Digital literacy involves the ability to solve problems using technology in a safe, legal, and ethically responsible manner. With the ever-expanding role of digitalization and big data in the modern world, digital literacy also means having strong data literacy skills and the ability to engage with emerging technologies. Digitally literate students recognize the rights and responsibilities, as well as the opportunities, that come with living, learning, and working in an interconnected digital world.
2. What are some digital tools we can use in the classroom?Microsoft programs, Google programs, Epic, Raz-Kids, Prodigy, Duolingo, Photo Math, Gonoodle, Kahoot!
3. What Mircosoft programs are available?Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Sway, Forms
4. What Google programs are available?Google classroom, Docs, Slides, Sheets
5. What are two other presentation programs that can be used in the classroom?Canva and Prezi
6. How can students collaborate using tech programs?By clicking the SHARE button on any Microsoft or Google program. Typing in their peer's email and clicking send.
7. Are all educational technology programs accessible? No, it is important to read through the software/program details prior to accessing the programs within the classroom.
8. How can I become more proficient with technology in my classroom?Practice! With any program it is important that educators practice using the software prior to introducing it to their students.
9. I don't like how attached my students are to their devices. How can I get away from this?Setting boundaries, time limits, or even designated areas of the classroom specifically for 'tech' can be beneficial. Reminding students that the devices and programs are tools and not toys can be a gentle reminder that they are to use the programs for educational purposes only.
10. How do you feel about using tech in the classroom, now that you are more than halfway through this course?Answers will vary
