QR Challenge: QRCode St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.


B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

5. Activity: Take a group photo of everyone playing ‘air’ guitar and send it to WhatsApp. Clue: Part 1. Put an S and a P before a ring, you’ll soon find good reasons to start listing the seasons! Part 2. Sometimes at weddings, this food is thrown, A paddy field is where it’s grown. Put these words together for your next location.

Clue: By the river Shannon, A monument stands tall and handsome, Honouring those who braved the sea, Their courage and strength for all to see. At this spot, by the river's bend, A tribute to these sea men, we commend (If you see an anchor, stop and thank her!)

Activity: Take a group photo in order of height (tallest to shortest) in front of the monument and send it to WhatsApp. Clue: Look for two men holding some wood, Down by the Shannon in bronze they are stood. These men represent all the dockers of old they worked loading ships, that’s the story I’m told.
9. Activity: Take a picture that shows 8 hands and 13 fingers. Clue: Where actors and artists come to play, In a theatre that's not far away, Find the place where the curtains rise, And the magic of performance fills the skies.
10. Activity: Take a picture with a celebrity and send it to WhatsApp. Clue: It’s the building where you work hard on linguistics. The best school in Limerick – you can see the statistics! When you arrive at the door there’s one more code still to scan. So it’s time to RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
