Edgar Allan Poe

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the 19th of January 1809
I was the second child of two actors. My father abandoned the family in 1810, and my mother died the following year. I became an orphaned and I was taken in by John and Frances Allan, of Richmond, Virginia.
I was an American author, poet, editor, and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for my tales of mystery and the macabre, I was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story, and I'm generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre.
I was enlisted in the Army in 1827. It was at this time my publishing career began, with an anonymous collection of poems, Tamerlane and Other Poems (1827).
In Baltimore in 1835, I married Virginia Clemm, my 13-year-old cousin.
In January 1845 I published my poem, "The Raven", to instant success. My wife died of tuberculosis two years after my publication.
On October 7, 1849, at age 40, I died in Baltimore; the cause of my death is unknown.
