Dorian Gray

I'm the main character from the novel The Picture Of Dorian Gray, written by Oscar Wilde and published as the lead story in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine on 20th June 1890.
In this novel I'm a handsome and narcissistic young man (actually I'm still pretty) who becomes enthralled with Lord Henry's (friend of Basil, the painter who is initially my friend and introduces me to Lord Henry) idea of life and begins to indulge in every kind of pleasure, moral and immoral, which eventually leads to my own societal demise. I'm really into going to parties and having fun... I just enjoy life the way everybody should. I was going to get married to Sibyl Vane but sadly she committed suicide by swallowing prussic acid because she found out that I no longer loved her. I gradually start to take into account that as I change my personality, the portrait Basil paints of me by the beginning of the book changes too, but I don't want people to find out!
My creator, Oscar Wilde, in a letter, said about the characters that: "Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry is what the world thinks me: Dorian is what I would like to be—in other ages, perhaps".
