In 1497 King Manuel 1 of portugal asked da Gama to find a sea route to india by sailing around africa

He led his first fleet of ships to reach India frum Eurupe.

His voyage opened the first ocean route between Europe and asia

His ships rounded the southern tip of africa and entered the Indian ocean

he established a rute around africas cape of good hope

while in india he fell ill (probably malaria) and died
