Ferdinand Magellan

In 1519 Magellan sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to South America

In 1520 he discovered a way to inter the Pacific Ocean from the Atlantic Ocean.

On the voyage he met fierce winter storms and ran out of food.

In 1518 King Charles 1 of Spain agreed to give him money for his voyage.

At times the crew had to eat rats, animal skins and saw dust.

He led the first group of explorers that sailed around the world.
