Richard Ford

I was a traveler and hispanist Englishman and I was born in 1796, in London. I studied for becoming a lawyer but I wasn't it and I cooperated as a reporter and a draftsman in some newspapers of London, like the Quarterly Review.
In 1830, I went to Spain because of the precarious health of my wife who needed to live in another climate. There, I traveled around all the country in mule drivers' company and I used the opportunity to do more than 500 drawings, so I cultivated the painting with pencil and ink, but my standing was in my books, I have never been such a professional in painting like John F. Lewis y David Roberts.
In 1833, when I came back to England, I opened a library with books in spanish, because I arranged to study the story and the customs of this country from 1837 on out. I decided to spend my life doing this work, even I advertised many short stories about spanish topics, like the bulls' festivity written in 1840, that makes me in contact with Murray and I accepted his order of writing about Spain. As result, the book named «A Handbook for travellers in Spain and readers at home» was realised in 1844 and it was very popular.
In 1846, I increased my Gathering from Spain adding others materials and I made public a book with curious anecdotes about Andalucía and finally, in 1852, The Spanish bull fight, an interesting subject.
