QR Challenge: Classroom procedures

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

Questions / Answers (teacher reference)

Question

Answer

1. You may NOT eat food in this classroom. This is a school policy and should be adhered to. It is acceptable to bring a bottle of water to class and that is ALL.answer 1
2. question 2 I do not allow the use of cell phones unless further technology is needed. Students are to put their cell phones in the business meeting box before the bell rings. I will allow ample time to collect your cell phone from the box before the bell rings at the end of the period. If you are found using your phone (did not put it in the box), I will collect and you can pick it up at the end of the day.answer 2 2
3. question 3 Yes, you may turn in a late assignment. You will receive 5 points off per day.answer 3 3
4. question 4 Turn in any/all work that is due that day to me before you leave school (otherwise you will be subject to a late grade). If you miss class, you may check my website, ask a classmate, or come see me.answer 4 4
5. question 5 No, unless it is a special occasion and you have permission from me. Headphones should not be in your ears.answer 5 5
6. question 6 You will still be required to hand in your assignment the day it is due. The library (school and public) has a printer. Otherwise, see me BEFORE the assignment is due.answer 6 6
7. question 7 Most assignments will be accepted the next day with a 50% penalty. There are some homework assignments that require you to bring in supplies or complete work that is necessary in order to participate in discussions; I will NOT accept those assignments after the due dateanswer 7 7
8. question 8 Bathroom policy: you have three opportunities per marking period to use the bathroom. I will award extra credit to those that have not used all or any of their allocated bathroom visits.
9. question 9 I do not hand out textbooks as I do not teach directly from a book. If we need to use a textbook as an additional resource, we will keep them in the class. I would be happy to let students borrow a textbook if needed. You must sign it out and let me know when you will be returning. You should bring a pen/pencil and notebook with you everyday. I will supply a folder for you to organize note sheets and worksheets I hand out.answer 9 9
10. question 10 Tests and quizzes should be make up within the same amount of time you are absent. For instance, if you missed two days of school, you have two days to make-up a test or quiz. However, it is not my responsibility to check in with you about when you plan to make-up work. It is on you! After the designated time, I will input a 0 into the grade book and may send an e-mail to your parents if you are in danger of failing.answer 10 10
11. question 11 Again, you are only allowed a water bottle in the classroom.answer 11 11
12. question 12 Really, you can’t believe that I didn’t find that funny; did you know your actions constitute as sexual harassment?! Messing around with your friends or siblings outside of school is one thing, but bullying a classmate and touching them in an inappropriate way is grounds for an immediate suspension. Your classmate can press charges against you, as well. It’s my job to protect students and, again, I would not be doing my job if I allowed this behavior to go without punishment. And not going directly to the office as instructed is insubordination. I don't enjoy sending students out of the classroom, but if YOU choose to disrespect myself or your classmates, YOU will leave me with no choice.answer 12 12
13. question 13 I would be happy to assist any student(s) that seems to be struggling with content. You can find me everyday at 3:00 in C20. If this does not work, see me to check availability.answer 13 13
14. question 14 You don't HAVE to take this class. However, I can't give you a long list of how/why this class is important to you. Are you interested in particular jobs in the business world? Do you know how to create a resume? Do you know about how the laws can affect you? What are labor laws that may be affecting you now? Do you know about personal finance? How are your computer skills (in every job you will need to use a computer!)? Are you prepared for a job interview? Where do you see yourself in five years? Need I go on??answer 14 14
15. question 15 No, again, if you leave school before our class meets, you must hand in all assignment(s) due before leaving.answer 15 15
16. question 16 I will be keeping a participation checklist with me and noting who/when you are participating with your group (this will directly affect your grade). If I notice, that you have not contributed to your group, I reserve the right to assign you to work as an individual. Just like in the business world, you will be required to work on group tasks and it is imperative that every member has a role and task.answer 16 16
17. question 17 As you should already know, plagiarism is NOT acceptable! If I find that you have plagiarized, you will be given the opportunity to make up the assignment with a 50% penalty as well as it being recorded on your file with the school. For further information about the school's plagiarism policy, please check your handbook.answer 17 17
18. question 18 Ask a friend; do not ask me! Being prepared for class has everything to do with participation. If you need to go to your locker for materials during class, you are still unprepared.answer 18 18
19. question 19 If you are completing other work in class, I will ask for the assignment and return it to you at the end of class. I will also mark this on the participation checklist. Students who actively participate in class not only do better on tests and quizzes but also leave a positive memory when it comes to recommendation letters and borderline grades (I am not required to bump your grade).answer 19 19
20. question 20 If you are not willing to complete assignments during the marking period, I am not willing to create an extra credit assignment.answer 20 20
21. question 21 If you have questions regarding components of an assignment or rubric, ask me BEFORE the assignment is due! This is not a flea market so don't try to bargain with me. If you have a specific question, feel free to see me after school.answer 21 21
22. question 22 Scissors, glue, markers, crayons can be found here. They should be returned as you see them now after using.answer 22 22
23. question 23 I also have construction paper, poster board, tape, and magazines to use for projects. I also tend to bring in more supplies as we go.answer 23 23
24. question 24 I am NOT your mother! Clean-up after yourselves. No one will be allowed to leave until the room is clean. I will assign a clean-up crew during projects to make sure the room looks as it did when you arrived.answer 24 24
25. question 25 The bell does not dismiss you. I will dismiss you; remain in your seat until I have released you.answer 25 25
26. question 26 If you are late with a pass, please come in without disrupting the class and put the late pass in the excused tardy bin upon entering. If you are late without a pass, write your name down on the list on the bulletin board and I will see you after school.answer 26 26
27. question 27 When you come into the classroom, please go to the SmartBoard and slide your name into the present area. Then take your seat and begin the DO NOW or take out your materials/homework.answer 27 27
