QR Challenge: Velocity and Acceleration Review Game p2

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

C. TIPS / OTHER IDEAS

4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.

Question

Answer

1. 1. The position equation for the movement of a particle is given by s = (t^2-1)^3 when s is measured in feet and t is measured in seconds. Find the acceleration at 2 seconds.a
2. 2. Suppose the position equation for a moving object is given by s(t) = 3t^2+2t+5 where s is measured in meters and t is measured in seconds. Find the velocity of the object when t=2.a
3. 3. An object is thrown from the top of a 220 ft building with an initial velocity of 26 ft/sec. Write the position equation for the movement described. What is the velocity at one second?a
4. 4. A particle moves in a straight line according to the law of motion: s = t^3-4t^2-3t. When the velocity of the particle is 0, what is its acceleration?a
5. 5. At t=0, a rock is dropped from rest from the top of a building 256 ft high. When, and with what velocity, does it strike the ground?a
6. 6. A rocket is shot vertically from the ground with an initial velocity of 96 ft/sec. When does the rocket reach its max height, and what is its max height? When does the rocket hit the ground?a
7. 7. A stone is thrown straight down from the top of an 80 foot tower. If the initial speed is 64 ft/sec, how long does it take to hit the ground, and with what speed does it hit the ground?a
8. 8. A rocket, shot straight up from the ground, reaches a height of 256 ft after 2 seconds. What was its initial velocity, what will be its max height, and when does it reach its max height?a
9. 9. A car is moving along a straight road according to the equation s=f(t)=2t^3-3t^2-12t. Describe its motion by indicating when and where the car is moving to the right, and when and where it is moving to the left.a
10. 10. A rock is dropped down a well that is 256 feet deep. When will it hit the bottom of the well?a
11. 11. A rock is thrown straight down from a height of 480 feet with an initial velocity of 16 ft/sec. How long does it take to hit the ground? With what speed does it hit the ground? How long does it take before the rock is moving at a speed of 112 ft/sec? When has the rock traveled a distance of 60 ft?a
12. 12. A rocket was shot straight up from the ground. What must have been its intitial velocity if it returned to earth in 20 seconds?a
