QR Challenge: open house night

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

Questions / Answers (teacher reference)

Question

Answer

1. After we read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, students were able to choose from a list of several different projects. Here is some of their excellent work!
2. Students have homework every night, except for the weekends. They will usually have some math problems, word study homework, or a combination. They also need to read every night! When students complete all their homework, they earn a sticker. Students who have done all of their homework assignments for the quarter receive a prize!
3. This is our classroom library. I have worked to make sure there are a variety of levels and topics represented. Students are encouraged to explore different genres of books to find what they love. Students spend time in school reading every day, and should be reading for at least 20 minutes each night.
4. Our school and our classroom have three main rules: Be respectful, responsible, and safe. Students wrote down what those rules mean to them, and then we all signed the papers, showing that we agree to follow them. If we do not follow the rules, we may lose recess time, get a verbal warning, write a reflection or apology note, or visit the principal. If we do follow them, we may earn paw points, verbal praise, a call home, or the opportunity to wear Fun Friday Attire!
5. We are working hard on problem-solving in math this year. Try to solve the following problem with your child: The cost of an apple is 39 cents. Robert has 25 cents in his pocket. How much more money does Robert need to purchase the apple? (Come show me your work and your answer!)
