QR Challenge: Kindergarten Kick-Off

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

C. TIPS / OTHER IDEAS

Questions / Answers (teacher reference)

Question

Answer

1. Find the lunch menu on the table by the door. Have a grown up read the menu for the first day of school. Make a decision about what you want to eat that day. Find your lunch clip and clip it to the correct place (hot lunch, yogurt, peanut butter and jelly, or lunch from home).
2. Find the basket next on the front table where you will turn in your folder every morning.
3. Find the Sharp/Dull buckets near the window. Talk to an adult about the difference between a sharp pencil and a dull pencil.
4. Find your name/seat at the round/rectangle tables. Get a blank piece of paper from the trays under the flag, ask an adult to carefully remove your nametag, place the paper over the top of your nametag, and use a pencil (from the cup in your table tub) to trace it. Place the paper with your name on it in the turn-in tray!
5. Find three trash cans and the recycling bin (Hint: one trash can is in the bathroom!).
6. Find the drinking fountain and get a drink.
7. Find the blue “mailbox” and find your number (hint: check the chart for your name!). Look in your mailbox for a surprise!
8. Find the bathroom across the hall. Have a grown-up help you read the procedures. Practice getting toilet paper, flushing the toilet, and washing your hands.
9. Find the calendar. Talk about the current day of the week, the month, the date, and the year. Find the first day of school and count how many days until Kindergarten starts!
10. Find your locker and practice opening and closing it quietly! Practice saying your locker number. Find the hooks for hanging up your coat and book bag. If you have extra gym shoes, they will go on the top shelf!
11. Find the computers and type your name on the keyboard. Please do not turn on the computers.
12. Find the rainbow shaped table by the window. This is our small group reading table.
13. Find the Turn-in Tray where you will be turning in your work each day!
14. Find a sheet of tan paper in the trays under the flag and trace your foot for our footprints in the sand hallway display! Write your name in pencil on the back (you do not have to cut it out), and set it in the turn-in tray.
15. Time to leave the classroom! Take a walk through the school to find the music rooms, the art rooms, the gyms, the library, and the cafeteria. If you are going to be riding the bus, go out door 14 (across from the office) and find your bus. Be sure to tell your bus driver your name. You may also want to tell him/her THANK YOU!!! Congratulations! You have completed our scavenger hunt! Now you may choose a book to enjoy with your grown-up. Be sure to put it back in the correct box when you are done!
