QR Challenge: Horse treasure hunt

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.


B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

1. Stall Cleaner. Replace the wet bedding with fresh bedding. When you lay a bed in an empty stall, us as much bedding as you can. Spread it over the floor to make a thick, soft layer.answer
2. Horse Trainer. You can train a horse to jump by first setting down poles on the ground. Then ride your horse to the poles and let your horse trot over the poles. Well your horse is trotting over the poles move into jumping position once your horse masters the poles, set up the low jumps. After your horse masters the low jumps it is time to move to the regular jumps. Once you have mastered the jumps you are ready to jump any jump you like.answer
3. Horse Groomer first you use a curry comb to brush all the lose hair of. Then clean and brush the horse's tail. After that clean the horse's hoofs. Then spray the horse's body, be careful not to spray the horse's face or ears. Use the sweat scraper to get all the water off. answer

Horse Feeder horses eat barley, oats, sugarcubes, and usually if they are in a barn they usually have a salt block to lick so their mouth stays moist.To feed a horse you have to make sure that you are feeding the horse something that they can eat, then make sure your hand is flat and feed them from the palm of your hand.answer
5. Rider some of the gear that the rider needs is a helmet, a jacket, leggings, chaps, riding boots, and a crop.answer
6. Tacker the horse needs a saddle pad, a blanket, a saddle, a girth, horseshoes, and when it is cold outside they sometimes need a cover to keep them warm.answer
7. Horse Chooser before you give away your horse you need to decide where it is going to live if you live on a ranch with a stall problem solved. If you don't you are going to have to find another barn for it to live in.answer
