Igneous Rocks

Lava, an example of igneous rock
Sedimentary Rocks
- formed from the eroded fragments of other rocks
- also formed from remains of plants and animals
- fragments rest in low lying areas and are pressed into sedimentary rocks
- some examples are sandstone and limestone
- can often find fossils in sedimentary rock
Metamorphic Rocks
- made from igneous or sedimentary rocks
- created by pressure, heat, or the intrusion of fluids
- examples include marble (from limestone) and quartzite (from sandstone)
