Types of Computers

There are many different types of computers which have their own individual role in the computer industry. These devices range from small hand-held devices to huge room-sized systems which encompass massive ammounts of computing power. Here are just a few:

  •  Personal Computer (PC)
  • Desktop Computer
  • Notebooks/Netbooks
  • Workstations
  • Personal Digital Assistance (PDAs)
  • Server
  • Supercomputers
  • Wearable Computers

What was the First Computer?

The very first computer ever invented was the ENIAC on the February 15th 1946. This system's purpose was to perform complex artillery calculations for the second World War however was the war was over before the machine could be operational. This device covered a whopping 167 square metres of floor space and weighed over 30 tonnes!

Computers and Gaming

Right from the mid 1900s, computers have posed a huge influence in the gaming industry. From the very first video game ever being Tennis for Two, played on a computer system, computers will no doubt be the way of the future for gaming. As over 83% of Australian households having access to some sort of personal computer at home, there is no doubt that this figure will rise in the years to come. Not only that, but with this exposing computer gaming to many Australians, the end to console gaming is inevitable. However what will computer gaming be in the future? Will it be some system placed on a desk or will it be a portable device that is able to be taken anywhere? Will it incorporate holograms and 4D images? Only time will tell.
