The first animal in space was the Russian dog, Laika. In 1957, people around the world watched on television as Laika travelled in space in the satellite Sputnik 2.

 

 

Who was the first man in space?

The Russian astronaut, Yuri Gagarin, was the first pearson in space. Scientists launched him into space on 12th April 1961. His flight lasted 108 minutes. He orbited the Earth once at nearly 28,000 kilometres an hour.

Who was the first waman in space?

Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman astronaut. Scientists launched her space craft on 16th June1963. She returned to Earth on 19th June 1963.

 

 

Who was the first on the Moon?

Apollo 11: the space craft in witch Neil Amstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins landed on the Moon on 20 July1969. At 4.17 p.m., Amstrong and Aldrin opened the door of the space module and stopped on the Moon. Amstrong walked a short distance and planted the American flag. His famous words were: ''That's one small step for man, one gigant leap for mankind". The astronauts stayed on the Moon for twenty-one hours, collecting rocks and completing some experiments.

 

 

 

 

 

Who was the first tourist in space?

Dennis Tito, a businessman from California, was the first tourist in space. He stayed on the International Space Station for almost eight days in 2001.The price of his trip was $20 m (£14m). He says, "The trip was fantastic! I looked at the Sun, the Moon and the stars!".
