Photosynthesis

Uses CO2 and H2O and produces glucose and O2.
Takes place in chloroplast.
Limited to autotrophs (excluding chemosynthetic organisms).
Anabolic pathway.
Electron acceptor is NADP+ to make NADPH.
To make 1 glucose, 18 ATP is required.
Electron transport chain starts because of water splitting enzyme and photons exciting atoms.

Cellular Respiration

Uses glucose and O2 and produces H2O and CO2.
Takes place is cytosol and mitochondria.
All organisms do a stage (glycolysis) or all stages of cellular respiration.
Catabolic pathway.
Electron acceptor is O2 to make H2O.
Breaking down 1 glucose, makes 36 ATP.
ETC happens with enzymes taking H+.

Both require ATP (PS----Calvin cycle, CR- glycolysis).
Both have a electron transport chain (PS- light dependent reaction, CR- oxidative phosphorylation).
Both do chemiosmosis.
