Teacher Standards
This was a very informative assignment. In looking at these for the first time, I now have a better understanding of what it means to be a facilitator of digital literacy and the standards that I should continuously strive to meet in my practice. I saw a lot of common trends in each of the three categories. One of the over-arching goals for all three, it seemed, was that safe and effective legal practices are implemented for the use of technology. This is always at the fore-front of my mind when giving students an assigment using technology. We have very strict rules and punishment for students who do not do this effectively and I always reinforce those rules when giving assignments.
The area that gave the most difficulty in coming up with comparisons was between the administrators and students. However, if I read between the lines of the standards, I could see several over-all goals for both parties. Even though students (especially high school) do not vocalize it, they really do like learning about technology and new, innovative ways of learninng through this medium,
*Teachers implement the use of technology to give authentic learning experiences
*Teachers are the facilitators of knowledge and skills for digital/technological literacy
*Teachers continuously improve professional practice and model lifelong learning
Administrator Standards
*Administrators inspire and lead development and implementation of integration of technology
*Administrators focus should be on continuous improvement of digital-age learning
*Administrators promote the environment of professional development for teachers
*Teachers/Students use technology to enhance the learning experience
*Teachers/Students both understand and continuouusly learn about global issues as they pertain to digital literacy and student success
*Both are continually learning about the most effective practices with technology
*Both analyze data whether in group projects or to support funding for tech.
*Both are advocators to support funding of tech. in the classrooms
*Both ensure effective practice in the study of technology (continous learning)
*Both are facilitators of implementation of techhnology
*Safe and effective practices are goals for all three parties.
*Acknowledgement that the use and implementation of technology enhances over-all learning experience
Educational Technology Standards Comparison
This assignment really gave me a lot of insight into what it means to meet technology standards as a teacher. Furthermore, I now have a deeper understanding of how my students can gain more digital literacy by meeting these standards and how I can implement the use of technology in my teaching. Teachers and administrators should be facilitators of technology use, which is why it is so crucial for both to continune learning to enhance our practice. As much as students do not want to necessarily verbalize this point, they truly do want to know more about the use of technology when it comes to learning in the classroom. Students, I feel, can be more productive adults if they are given more and more opportunities to learn through digital mediums and tools in the classroom. It truly starts with teachers; the more we know; the more our students know!
