The Soviet Union and the West both claimed victory.
 
The Western Allies set up a military alliance called NATO.
 
Many Westerners left Berlin for good.
 
The air lift showed the West's committment to Berlin and kept Berlin working.
 
Berlin became a symbol of Cold War tension.
 
It ended the four-power administration of Germany and Berlin. Germany was now simply split into two blocks, East and West. A divide that would last for 40 years.
 
There was no fighting. The disput ended peacefully.
 
Heightened fear of the USSR in the West.
 
The airlift improved relations between the Allies and the Germans, who had so recently been at war.
