In my view, the main differences between Left-wing and Right-wing
people are that the Right-wing wants more freedom and choice while the Left-wing wants things to be structured by the government.
People produce their best work in a competitive environment. Too much support makes people lazy underachievers (individualism).
Low Taxes so people have the freedom to afford to choose their own services (e.g. private education, pensions, healthcare).
Key industries like the railways should be consolidated, run and supported by the government on behalf of the nation ('nationalisation'). Private ownership of business leads to short-term profit making, not long-term investment.
The courts should try to punish offenders so that others are won't commit crimes. Too much stress on 'reform' embitters the victims of crime and encourages them to take revenge.
Devolution is a good thing. By giving each region (e.g. Brittany in France, Catalonia in Spain) the power to run some of its own affairs, they will be happy to stay a part of the main country.
Multi-national communities are vibrant and forward-looking. We should do everything we can to demolish barriers between nations and cultures.
We should remove any obvious barriers preventing people from reaching their potential (e.g. making sure that every workplace has disabled access), but never force businesses to employ certain types of people - that would just build up more resentment.
Yes. All humans should be able to enjoy the same fundamental rights and these should be protected by law.
The government should carry out policies which are practical and realistic (‘What works’). Evolution, not revolution, is the way forward - rushing things never works
