A person who others call a Saint, has been recognised by others as being a model or an inspiring person to learn from.
Saints and inspiring people hold a special place in the Catholic Church. Some of them have been venerated. This means that they hold a holy place in the Church.
Saints who are venerated within the Catholic Church have been canonised and they are publicly honoured.
Inspiring people are inspiring because they have been important witnesses of faith in families/whanau and parishes.
Inspiring people are seen as role models to us because they live a good life.
The Saints we have are models or signs of Christ in the world. They show people how to live as Jesus did. Especially how Jesus looked after the poor, sick and lonely.
When people live a life of faithful obedience to the will of God, stand up for what is right and are not concerned to be the most popular, they are living a Saintly life.
The Holy Spirit works within us so the values of Jesus enables us to be closely connected to him. Our values can inspire others to live their life for God.
