The standard of the facilities in the estate drew in the people of Berlin. Each residence had a bathroom, kitchen and a bedroom. This made the estate very desirable and up to standard. But only a few houses had central heating, so coal ovens were placed in every house to ensure a sufficient amount of heat. To keep the colours the main feature, Taut didn't want his residents to have many furnishings in their homes. Also, he didn't force the the Bauhaus-style furniture onto the public, but suggested other ways of simplifying the furniture to make it aesthetically pleasing.
Tautes Heim (Taut's home) is a refurbished holiday home in the estate, where vistitors can see the original layout of the houses from the 1930s, all the furniture being vintage or recreated to the 1930s style. Tautes Heim won a Europa Nostra award.
