Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, navigator, and colonizer. Born in the Genoa,under the auspices of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain he completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. Those voyages and his efforts to establish settlements on the island of Hispaniola initiated the permanent European colonization of the "New World", as called.

La Belle
La Belle was one of Robert de La Salle's four ships when he explored the Gulf of Mexico with the ill-fated mission of starting a French colony at the mouth of the Mississippi River around the 1600´s. La Belle was wrecked in present-day Matagorda Bay the following year, dooming La Salle's Texas colony to failure. For over three centuries the wreckage of La Belle lay forgotten until it was discovered by a team of state archaeologists in[Almost] 2000. The discovery of La Salle's flagship was regarded as one of the most important archaeological finds of the century in Texas, and a major excavation was launched by the state of Texas that, over a period of about a year, recovered the entire shipwreck and over a million artifacts.

7 cities of Gold
The ¨Seven Cities of Gold¨ is a myth that was lead by the famous Francisco Vasquez de Coronado in the 15th century. It is also featured in several works of popular culture. According to legend, the seven cities of gold could be foundthroughout the pueblos of the New Mexico Territory. The cities were : Hawikuh, Halona, Matsaki, Kiakima, Cibola, and Kwakina. While there have always been people talking of a seventh city, no evidence of a site has been discovered.
