Were business tycoons Captains of Industry or Robber Barons?
I think business tycoons were captains of industry because it was their successes, failures, and errors that led the American industry forward and showed us what to do and what not to do. It is partially true to call them robber barons because they did do a vast amount of harm but it wouldn’t be complete if we only thought about how they messed up the industry and not how they benefitted the industry.
