Metropolis is a sci-fi, silent, expressionist film by Fritz Lang in Germany released in 1927. It is one of the first science fiction feature length movies and a pioneer of the genre.
It is about a futuristic, urban dystopia that was found by critics to be beautiful and the special effects at the time were complex and very well done.

Friedrich Christian Anton "Fritz" Lang was an Austrian-German-American filmmaker, screenwriter, film producer, and actor.
He was one of the best known "emigres" from the German school of expressionism, and was even dubbed by the British Film Institute as the "Master of Darkness"
Nosferatu
