In 1961 the Berlin wall was built and divided Berlin. This caused many problems.
THEY LOST EVERYTHING
Some people lost nearly everything and if they tried to do something about it they most possibly shot to death
THE EAST AND THE WEST
The east was worst than the west and everyone from the east tried to escape to the west
NO FOOD
As people lost their jobs they could not afford money this lead to people having to starve because of the separation the wall caused
UNEMPLOYMENT
Many east berliners were cut off from their jobs, this meant that when they previously had a job and could work after the Berlin wall was built they weren’t able to work anymore or they had to find new jobs
PROBLEMS BETWEEN FAMILIES
The berlin wall divided families who found themselves unable to visit each other.
NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE OTHER WORLD
People in the east had not a lot of information about what is happening to the world around them. It was like they were traped with no connection to friends and family
CHILDREN HAD NO FUTURE
Children had a less chance for success as people in the east did not have the correct amount of education for a bright and better future
MANY DEATHS
People got upset because they lost a big number of friends and family as they were killed when they tried to escape the East and go over to the West
THE DEATH STRIP
Most people who tried to escape to the other side of the wall were shot in what was known “The Death Strip”. The Death Strip was a little strip of land between East and West Berlin. The guards had orders to shoot anyone who tries to cross it
