In 1861 the civil war began between the confederate and union states.During that time period their was 40 millions slaves located in america,Slaves were used as tools and they worked for free,They were beaten and worked almost all day in the hot sun with NO break The north did not need slaves only the south by the union.Most of the times they tried escaping to the north for freedom.But in 1863 president Lincoln enacted the proclamation which declared freedom for all slaves
