William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare was born around April 26, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England (at the time). He is an author and a playwright, and is the best selling fiction author of all time, with an estimation of 4 billion copies sold.

Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies

Shakespeare wrote many different types of literature -- sonnets, plays, poems, etc., but all of his 38 plays fell under either a comedy, history, or tragedy. Tragedies all had around the same ending, which is that a catastrophe happens, such as a numerous number of people die. Comedies usually end in weddings, and even if it is a comedy, most of the time at least one person will die. Histories are what they sound like, the history about a person or an event in history.

William Shakespeare had many quotes that he came up with. This quote means that if someone is treating you poorly, or if someone is doing something you don't like, then they are a lesson. They are a lesson to not waste your time on rude people, and instead to use it to spend time with your family and your real friends. However, the bad, rude people will be the best lesson for you in the future.

The Tempest

Another one of William Shakespeare's plays is The Tempest which was written in 1610, and was first performed November 1, 1611. It is a romantic comedy and consists of characters named Prospero, Caliban, Ariel, Miranda, Ferdinand, Stephano, and many, many more. The scene starts as a storm strikes a ship with Alonso, Ferdinand, Sebastian, Antonio, Gonzalo, Stephano, and Trinculo. As the play goes on, more characters come in, and it gets very confusing, and even a love triangle occurs. This play can be very confusing and hard to understand, but it all clears up in the end.

Shakespeare's Sonnets

William Shakespeare had a total of 154 sonnets, with has multiple themes such as beauty, love, the passage of time, and mortality. His first 126 sonnets are addressed to a man, while the last 28 are to a woman.

Shakespeare's Family

In this picture, William is standing with his parents John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. William Shakespeare had five siblings all of John and Mary. William had two sisters, Joan and Judith, and three brothers, Gilbert, Richard, and Edmund. However, before Shakespeare was born, John and Mary had two miscarriages. Also, Shakespeare had another sister named Anne who sadly died at the age of eight

The Tempest

The Tempest is a romantic comedy play by William Shakespeare. This play was written in 1610, and performed November 1, 1611. The Tempest consists of many, many characters, such as Prospero, Caliban, Ariel, Miranda, Ferdinand, Stephano, and much more. As the play goes on, it gets more and more confusing, but by the end of it you will understand what happened, and how they got where they are.

Shakespeare's Family Tree

This family tree shows William's parents, John and Mary, and their kids. Additionally, this picture shows William and Anne's kids, and their kids kids. It also provides dates of births, deaths, and marriages.

Shakespeare's Death

William Shakespeare died April 26, 1616 in his family home, New Place. He was buried a couple days later in Holy Trinity Church, in Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom.
