Ancient Times

In Ancient times warfare was very different. Before battle took place a whole routine had to be followed. First, all pre-war religious rituals occurred. In ancient times soldiers and city-states were very honorable and gave the opposing side a chance to back down, and give them time to get ready and armed. Although many soldiers were killed and the wars were brutal. Leaders respected each other and wanted a fair fight. Ancient time warfare also used many strategies, soldier formations such as the Phalanx, and Testudo.

Middle ages

From ancient time to medieval ages warfare had drastically changed as well as tactics and strategies. A big change from ancient times was that the strong belief in gods died down and that you don't have to follow everything by the Bible. This changed the rules of war and gods were no longer praised with rituals and sacrifices. Also How battles were fought was very different. Castles became the central element of fortification and cavalry and the use of horses was very effective in battle, and the Knight was the new traditional soldier.

john locke "Enlightenment"

During the Enlightenment, many philosophers expressed their beliefs and ideologies and one of those men was John Locke. John Locke is one of the most famous philosophers known and had many followers during his time period. He was a highly influential figure at the time and convinced many people to believe his ideology on war. He believed that war was not a good thing but if attacked then you must defend yourself. John Locke said “the safety of the innocent is to be preferred, and one may destroy a man who makes war upon him."

trench Warfare

In WWI warfare trench warfare plays a major role. Trenches were very popular amongst countries in WWI. when the opposing time has superior firepower trenches allow protection but takes away mobility. This was a big change in WWI warfare because many battles were fought amongst the same trenches. Trenches were very large and extended for long distances. The western front in WWI extended from the Belgian coast through northeastern France to Switzerland. During trench warfare Stalemates also occurred which is when which prolonged the end of the war. Stalemates are situations in which both sides cant progress forward.

French revolution

The french revolution was fought in a much different way than WWI. although there was a lot of blood shed, the french revolution was not a fight with other nations for territory or power but was fought amongst its own people to fix their government situation. After WWI france was in recovery and throughout the years the population doubled and goods and necessities started to become scarce. After this france faced many economic and political problems. First is that the higher class have priority over goods which left the peasants in horrible living conditions, with barely any food, and must pay high taxes. At this time france was in crisis. Many Philosophers tried coming up with a solution but all had very different ideas.

World War II

In WWII warfare had advanced so advanced which led to many new strategies and weapons which were deadly and killed many. Since in constant war, new advanced weapons and vehicles are being produced and they changed warfare. In WWII new technology led to fighting from the air with fighter planes and bomber planes which leaves all ground troops exposed and defenseless. At sea new technology like radar and sonar was valuable tool in WWII which Helped see hundreds of miles ahead. All These were used By both sides of the war the Axis and Allied nations. WWII started by the political take over of German leader Adolf Hitler. Germany intended to build an empire by occupying more territory. Japan and Italy fought alongside Germany, while the United States, Great Britain, and The Soviet Union opposed them. The war lasted six years and was the most destructive and deadly war in the world.

Holocaust

The Holocaust was an event in WWII when there was a genocide on the Jewish race. The leader of Germany Adolf Hilter was very antisemitic and wanted to exterminate the all the jews. He convinced his people to stand by him with manipulation and through propaganda. The warfare used in the Holocaust was inhumane and unlike any other. Jews had no way to defend themselves and were starved, worked to death, or killed in horrific ways like being gassed, or getting beaten. over six million Jews died in the Holocaust and several millions of other minority groups like the homos, the mentally ill, and jehovas witness's.

Germany Through warfare played multiple offensive battles with very strategic and destructive techniques. Hitler was able to grow his empire to almost all of Europe.

cold war

Since WWII to the Cold War warfare had changed in quite an odd way. The war was Between The the United States and the Soviet Union. The warfare was odd because they aided other countries and made alliances for them to fight for them never actually engaging themselves. The United States and the Soviet Union were too scared to fight each other directly. This is why It is known as the cold war. The United States supported anyone fighting communism and the Soviet Union supported anyone who encouraged it. The two countries fought by denouncing each other verbally and through propaganda. The Cold war finally came to an end at the shredding of the iron curtain.

Voroshilov, Kliment

Warfare has become so much more complex that leaders and generals are no longer required to just think about their soldiers but many other factors need to be taken care of now that warfare is so advanced. the secret message was written by Voroshilov, Kliment Efremovich to the USSR and the red army shows all the divisions of war needed to be taken care of and constantly adjusted. The number of engineers, cavalry, infantry, air force, railroad troops, military schools, reserve units, air defenses etc.
