ANCIENT TIMES

This is a picture of the weapon pilum being used in war.

The Roman military, throughout their successful history in battle, adopted weapons from the people/territories they conquered. The weapons depended on their military to create and sustain their empire.

Some weapons the Romans used were: the gladius (iconic short sword of the Roman army), the pilum (heavy javelin featuring a long thin iron shank and heavy shaft), the hasta (first and last main Roman weapon meaning spear), pugio (dagger) , and velites (throwing javelins).

Middle Ages

This is a picture of the cross bow being used in war

The two main types of fighting in the Middle Ages were pitched battles and siege warfare. Pitched battles were pre-planned/pre-arranged ways of fighting. They involved ruthless fighting and powerful confrontations. Siege warfare was the process of surrounding the enemy. After an army was surrounded, it was attacked on all sides, making it difficult for the surrounded army to escape. There were new weapons and

technology, for example, the cross-bow led to the adoption of plate armor instead of chain mail. Additionally, scientific advances let militaries to abandon older techniques and begin working on new techniques. Greeks and Romans used iron ties to join blocks of stone together.

WWI

This is a picture of the trench warfare soldiers made for protection and strategy.

In WW1, trench warfare was a new, major type of warfare used. There was a western and eastern front who both used this defense weapon. It was built for people to be protected, and a place to hide. Trench warfare had its advantages, as well as its disadvantages. It was easier to use, caused more casualties, changed the ways wars were fought, and started to abandon ritual warfare.

Also, there were so many new weapons introduced after trench warfare. One of them is the Tank, which ended the horrors of the trench warfare and brought back some nobility to the Western Front. Submarines were a improved device in WWI. it was an underwater listening device. This was very beneficial for an attack because being underwater is less obvious than being on land. Also poison gas was very strong and was used in trenches. soldiers had to wear masks to stay safe and alive. Machine gun was also a better more improved gun. It was very easy to kill with. Also, fighter planes were used and it was very easy to transport goods or other weapons in air

19th century

Ems telegram was a new document in the 19th century . Otto von Bismarck did not want to add extra thoughts to the telegram. He changed the telegrams writing to incite war. He changed the words to write that two men were insulting each other. This document was to purposely offend the French government, so it was a weapon used against them.

interwar period

This is a picture of the awful Gulag camps Stalin made.

During the interwar period, Stalin, the head of Russia used different kinds of war tactics. One was called Gulags, which was a labor camp. Another way of attacking was the Great Purge. The Great Purge sent officiers to find old bolsheviks, people who didn't support him, and killed the most talented people. He thought that this would benefit his country by doing the horrible things he has done

WWII

WWII weapons were much more advanced compared to the WWI weapons used. Fighter planes were very helpful and used a lot. It was used in the air to fly around and drop bombs. It is a successful tactic because it is very hard to fight back when your enemy is in the air, and you are on the ground. Also, the planes have the advantage of being small, fast and maneuverable. Air weapons have been a key component of victory in warfare. Another aircraft used in WWII are bomber planes. Bomber planes, similar to fighter planes is also involved with dropping bombs, but also in the sea areas. The goal of a bomber plane is to crush the enemies war efforts, by destroying bases, bridges, factories, shipyards and cities.

USA dropped so many bombs on Japan at the end of WWII. One bomb was called “Little Boy”, it was a very strong and big bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima island. It was a known weapon throughout the bombing of Japan. The radar was a new weapon/tactic introduced in WWII. The radar sends out a radio wave and analyzing the reflected wave after it bounced off any objects in the air. Now, it would translate the reflected the signal into the direct current necessary for visualization on the screen. the “germanium crystals” have worked very well to detect everything. These were very useful, even to unexpected areas. two other improved technologies are the sonar and german tanks. Both are very successful, and used all over WWII.

This is a picture of United Nation headquarters, where everything is planned and people work.

After world war two, the United Nations was created. The united nations had the job to maintain international peace, maintain friendly relationship between different countries, and advocate developments of member nations. The United Nations also has sanctions to use on the country of North Korea. There are different types of sanctions, and they each have different effects. The goal of sanctions is to punish a country for violating international law. Sanctions can be considered weapons against North Korea to take them down.

One sanction is called diplomatic sanctions. Diplomatic sanctions would remove all political ties (embassies). This would destroy the dictator of North Korea and stop all offices involved. Another sanction is economic sanctions, which bans on all trade with a country (not including food). This sanctions will put North Korea down, because it makes North Korea's allies against them now, and NK will gain no support anymore. Lastly, the third sanction is military sanctions. This sanction has the use of military to force compliance. These were all great forces against North Korea.
