This primary source of Ancient Egypt, The Rosetta Stone was carved in 196 B.C.. It was found in a small village in the Delta called Rosetta in the year 1799, by French soldiers. It got its name because of the town Rosetta, in which it was found. This stone was written in two different languages Greek and Coptic, it also uses three scripts Hierogyphic, Demotic and Greek. Hieroglyphic was used for importany and religious documents. Demotic was just a common script of Egypt, and Greek was the language of rulers of Egypt in that time period. A numerous amount of people attempted to translate the hieroglyphs over several hundred years, due to the fact that the structure was very difficult to work out. After many years of studying the Rosetta Stone and plenty of other sample of Egyptian writings, in 1822, Jean - François Champollian was able to translate the hieroglyphs.
